Medical Director & Founder – Mind Body Skin Institute
Dr Nicole Chater is an experienced General Practitioner and Cosmetic Doctor based in Bowral, Southern Highlands. As the founder (along with her husband Andrew) and Medical Director of Mind Body Skin Institute, she brings together expertise in cosmetic medicine, facial aesthetics, women's health, preventative medicine and skin health.
With a medical career spanning more than 15 years, Dr Chater is known for her considered, personalised approach to patient care, combining medical knowledge, an understanding of facial anatomy and ageing, and a commitment to evidence-based medicine.
Her clinical philosophy extends beyond treating individual concerns. She believes that health, skin and appearance are closely connected, and that achieving balanced, natural-looking aesthetic outcomes begins with understanding the person as a whole.
Expertise in Cosmetic Medicine & Facial Aesthetics
Dr Chater has undertaken advanced professional training in aesthetic medicine, with particular interests in facial ageing, cosmetic injectables, skin rejuvenation and regenerative approaches to skin health.
Her approach to cosmetic medicine is grounded in detailed facial assessment, anatomical knowledge and individualised treatment planning. Rather than focusing solely on lines and wrinkles, she considers the broader changes associated with ageing, including facial proportions, volume, skin quality and structural support.
Dr Chater places particular emphasis on subtle, balanced outcomes that respect each patient's individual features, alongside careful consideration of treatment suitability, safety and long-term skin health.
Her cosmetic practice incorporates injectable treatments, collagen-stimulating approaches, medical-grade laser technology and advanced skin treatments.
A Trusted Medical Voice
Beyond her clinical practice, Dr Chater contributes to public conversations about medicine, skincare, ageing and women's health.
She has been interviewed by Karl Stefanovic and Sarah Abo on the Today Show, sharing medical insights with a national television audience.
She has also appeared on the Mamamia You Beauty podcast, contributing to discussions about skincare and cosmetic medicine.
Dr Chater regularly provides medical commentary on radio with Ian Holland, helping listeners navigate health concerns and understand contemporary medical topics.
Her expertise has also been sought by international brands such as L'Oréal, where she has contributed as a medical expert adviser on skincare.
These opportunities reflect her broader involvement in medical education, public health communication and the evolving field of evidence-based skincare and cosmetic medicine.
Alongside her ongoing roles in national media, she has always been a keen member of educating the younger generation of medical students, and was awarded Honorary Associate Lecturer at Macquarie University.
General Practice, Women's Health & Preventative Medicine
Alongside cosmetic medicine, Dr Chater maintains an active general practice, with particular interests in:
Perimenopause, menopause and hormonal health
Women's health and contraception
Metabolic health and weight management
Preventative health and healthy ageing
Skin conditions including acne, rosacea and pigmentation
Sexual Health Medicine
Mental health and emotional wellbeing
Her background in psychology further informs her approach to understanding the relationship between physical health, emotional wellbeing and patient confidence.
Dr Chater believes that excellent medical care requires time, thoughtful investigation and an understanding of each patient's individual circumstances.
A Different Approach to Medicine in the Southern Highlands
Dr Chater founded Mind Body Skin Institute with a vision to create a medical practice where general practice, cosmetic medicine and advanced skin treatments could exist together.
The clinic reflects her belief that patients should have access to comprehensive, personalised medical care without separating their health concerns from their skin, appearance and wellbeing.
With longer consultations, a focus on clinical assessment and access to advanced treatment technologies, Mind Body Skin Institute offers a considered approach to both medical and aesthetic care.
For Dr Chater, cosmetic medicine is not about changing how someone looks. It is about understanding what matters to them and providing appropriate medical care that supports their confidence, health and wellbeing.

Director of Business Operations
Andrew Chater is the Director of Business Operations, working alongside his wife, Dr Nicole Chater, to bring their shared vision of a premium, doctor-led medical and cosmetic clinic to life in the Southern Highlands.
While Nicole leads the clinical direction of MBSI, Andrew is the driving force behind much of the business's day-to-day operations, strategic planning and administration. From financial management and business development to staff coordination, systems and operational processes, Andrew plays an essential role in ensuring the clinic runs smoothly and continues to grow.
Before establishing MBSI, Andrew built a career in law enforcement, including working in the demanding field of counter-terrorism. This experience developed his skills in leadership, risk management, strategic decision-making and problem-solving, as well as his ability to remain calm and focused in complex and high-pressure situations. He now brings these qualities to the management and ongoing development of Mind Body Skin Institute.
With a practical, solutions-focused approach and a strong attention to detail, Andrew is often the person working behind the scenes to resolve challenges, improve efficiency and support the MBSI team. He understands that delivering an exceptional patient experience requires more than excellent clinical care; it also depends on a welcoming environment, a supported team and seamless operations.
Together, Andrew and Nicole have built MBSI around a shared commitment to quality, integrity and personalised care. Their complementary strengths bring together clinical expertise and business leadership, creating a practice where patient wellbeing, professional standards and long-term relationships remain central to everything they do.
Although patients may not always see Andrew during their visits, his contribution is reflected in the thoughtful details, organisation and ongoing development of the clinic. He takes particular pride in supporting the team and helping create an environment where clinicians can focus on what matters most: providing excellent patient care.
For Andrew, MBSI is more than a business. It represents a shared family vision to establish a trusted, progressive medical and cosmetic clinic that makes a meaningful contribution to the Southern Highlands community.
