Contraception
At the Mind Body Skin Institute, we offer confidential, doctor-led contraception consultations to help you make informed decisions about your reproductive health.
During your consultation, your doctor will take a comprehensive medical and menstrual history, discuss your lifestyle and preferences, and guide you through the full range of contraceptive options available — including short-term, long-term, hormonal, and non-hormonal methods.
Your consultation will cover:
Discussion of available contraceptive options (eg. implanon, Intra uterine device insertion)
Assessment of your suitability for different methods
Information on benefits, side effects, and risks
Guidance on switching or discontinuing current contraception
Screening for reproductive or hormonal health concerns
Our aim is to help you choose a method that feels safe, effective, and right for you, with the option for ongoing review and care as needed.
Intrauterine Device (IUD) Insertion - Hormonal & Copper Options
The Mind Body Skin Institute provides IUD insertion and removal services, performed by an experienced, AHPRA-registered doctor.
An intrauterine device (IUD) is a small device placed inside the uterus to provide long-term contraception. Two main types are available:
Hormonal IUD
Gradually releases a small amount of progestogen hormone into the uterus.
Works by thickening cervical mucus, thinning the uterine lining, and reducing the likelihood of ovulation.
May assist in lighter periods or reduction of menstrual cramps in some individuals.
Can be used for birth control, but also an effective treatment for heavy bleeding or periods during perimenopause.
Copper IUD
A non-hormonal birth control option that uses copper to create an environment toxic to sperm, preventing fertilisation.
Can be suitable for those wishing to avoid hormonal contraception.
May cause slightly heavier or more crampy periods initially.
Procedure & Aftercare
The procedure is performed in clinic with available pain relief options.
Your consultation will include:
Pre-insertion counselling and suitability assessment
Discussion of the procedure, potential side effects, and aftercare
Arrangements for follow-up and ongoing contraceptive management
You can return to your normal activities soon after insertion, though mild cramping or spotting is common for a few days.
All procedures are performed or supervised by AHPRA-registered medical practitioners. Individual suitability, device selection, and timing will be discussed during your consultation. This information is general and does not replace individual medical advice.
Everyone’s skin tells a story - of genetics, environment, hormones, stress, and time.
At Mind Body Skin Institute, our role is to interpret those signals and design thoughtful, doctor-led treatment plans that address both the surface and the source.
